This course is designed for beginners or those new to watercolour painting. Students will learn the basic technical knowledge around surfaces, tools and materials used in painting. They will go on to learn how to mix colour, understand shape and tone and bring these elements together to independently produce watercolour paintings. Classes will be run by a professional artist and restricted to 16 or less. We will be using the Winson & Newton Cotman Water Colour paint range. Progression is available onto intermediate watercolour painting.

You will need to have paid in full before the first session of your class. Your place is not guaranteed until we have received full payment. Please book early in order to guarantee your place on the course. 

Tutor Profile: Rebecca Boyd Allen

Since 2012, watercolour has been Rebecca’s medium of choice, exploring movement and improvisation through layers and transparency. She has exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Watercolour Society “Contemporary Watercolour Exhibition.” Following a BFA from Kansas State University, Rebecca Boyd Allen studied at the New York Studio School and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to study for a year at the Slade School of Art, London. She received an MFA in Painting from Parsons School of Design in New York before settling in London, where she has been painting and teaching for the past 20 years.  



Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring? All materials are supplied but wear old clothes!

Is there storage? we can store works as necessary for the duration of the course. Artwork must be taken home at the end of the course or it will be disposed of. 

What about refreshments? Tea and coffee will be available on class breaks. Our bar will open immediately after Saturday classes.

Is there disabled access? Yes, Elephant West has disabled access. 

Health and Safety: Guidelines will be provided to you at the beginning of your class.
