A course designed for beginners or those that are new to watercolour and mixed media. Students will learn the basic technical knowledge of the surfaces, tools and materials used in watercolour painting. They will go on to learn how to mix colour, understand shape and tone and combine them with other techniques such as drawing and collage, bringing these elements together to independently produce watercolour and mixed media artworks. Classes will be run by a professional artist and restricted to 18 or less. Progression is available onto intermediate watercolour and mixed media.
You will need to have paid in full before the first session of your class. Your place is not guaranteed until we have received full payment. Please book early in order to guarantee your place on the course.
Tutor Profile: Rachel Levitas
In 2010 Rachel won the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize for her Urban Fox III painting. Based on an experience of, ’...young foxes play-fighting in the street in Lewisham. Beautiful and bold opportunists that represent the rise of forces previously suppressed; the return of the wild to London’s streets, creativity emerging and adapting in a collapsing economy.’ Rachel studied Fine Art at Camberwell School of Art, Advanced Printmaking at Central St Martins and Postgraduate Painting at the Royal Academy Schools (awarded the Turner Gold Medal for Painting) Her most recent solo exhibition was at Rebecca Hossack in 2018.

What should I bring? All materials are supplied but wear old clothes!
Is there storage? we can store works as necessary for the duration of the course. Artwork must be taken home at the end of the course or it will be disposed of.
What about refreshments? Tea and coffee will be available on class breaks. Our bar will open immediately after Saturday classes.
Is there disabled access? Yes, Elephant West has disabled access.
