The End of the Video Vixen, presented by Somesuch

Somesuch presents a screening of music videos that explore female gaze within the medium.

2018 was a stellar year for women in music video for established directors and up-and-comers alike. Somesuch will curate a selection of the best videos helmed by women from the year, followed by a panel discussion afterward of directors, video commissioners and artists.

Saskia Whinney, Somesuch’s Head of Music Video – Saskia is responsible for landing Somesuch the title Production Company of the Year at this year’s UK Music Video Awards. Producing work for artists as varied Florence and the Machine, Chaka Khan, King Krule and the Fat White Family in the last 12 months alone. Her department is dedicated to bringing up new talent, and ensuring creative integrity for directors and artists alike.

Olivia Rose, Director and Photographer. – Known for her scene-defining book ‘This is Grime’, made in collaboration with Hattie Collins, Olivia Rose is one of only 100 photographers selected to show work in the British Journal of Photography’s ‘Portrait of Britain’ series and recently had her portrait of Stormzy and his mum taken into the official collection at the National Portrait Gallery. Last year she moved into moving image and already has four outstanding music videos under her belt, and one UK Music Video Award for Best Urban Video. She’s worked with artists such as Skepta, Jorja Smith, Kojey Radical and 6lack, frequently turning her lense on the male form.

Holly Williams, Marketing and Creative Director at Island Records. Alongside heading up Island’s UK marketing team, Holly leads Island’s new award-winning creative division, Studio Island, and has overseen campaigns for: Chaka Khan, PJ Harvey, Robyn, Ray Blk, U2 and Mumford & Sons. Studio Island’s primary function is to bring an artist’s creative vision to life, whether that be having the in-house team art direct or design their campaigns or connecting them with emerging or established talent for photoshoots, music videos and content.
